Blog Help!

Just a brief intro to my friend Carmina. She was the one who introduced me to blogging. I ran into her a few months ago on the subway and she mentioned that she was teaching a class on blogging. Blogging? What the hell is a blog--am I really this disconnected from the world--I must start leaving the neighborhood more often!!
Anyhoot, Carmina is great and you can find her here www.Mogulette.blogspot.com. There is a lot of helpful information on her site and she also does private sessions. If you are looking to market a product she is definately a good person to contact.
I will be doing an interview on Carmina sometime during the next 2 weeks.

Me!

Come on over to see my first interview on Boutique Buyers Blog! I will be posting my complete interview with Jennifer Paganelli there on Saturday. And tomorrow, there will be an interview about little ol'me!

"Life has been very good to me, I could not be in a better place...I love the creative process..and I love when folks show us what they are working on with our fabrics...its so gratifying...I tell every one to believe in your dreams, pursue them and trust that no-one has a corner on anything, there is always room for one more!" GenMarie Boutique

This is the newest piece by Christine, owner of GenMarie Clothing. It is the start of her fall line, Autumn Sky, which I'm sure is going to be beautiful. Christine is a self taught designer and her work is exsquisit. She mixes and matches and ...it's pretty much perfection. Beautifuly sewn with a very upscale yet fun look.
Christine was one of my first on line friends. Funny, talented and very giving of herself. She inspired me. I have been searching for a name for a charity fund I will be starting in the fall. Cornucopia, is what I have picked. It means, as we all know, horn of plenty. What we all might not know, as I didn't, is that it is a horn that is ALWAYS full and abundent and can never run out. There is much in this world for all of us.

ROBBIE "Featured Photographer"

My good friend Robbie. Besides being a fabulous photographer, is one of the most loving and giving people I know and she has a heart of gold. With that said, it started like this:
This says Christine: "Your not selling any of your beautiful designer print fabric dresses because your pictures stink" O.K.! What now? Robbie to the rescue: "Of course I'll help" Name the time!
So I gather up 5 adorable little girls from the neighborhood, 5 of them under the age of six with four outfits each to model, along with their mothers and babysitters. Yes, this is new to me and I was very excited and inexperienced in childrens photography! Since I have lived in NY, I have always dreamed of doing a fashion shoot at the Peter Pan Statue in Carl Schultz Park. It is so charming and magical and reminiscent of days gone by with its raised garden of heirloom flowers, that gorgeous statue and winding cobblestone paths.
It was a pretty chaotic three hours but Robbie was very professional and with a big smile got a lot of great shots. Above and below are some of the photos. If you would like to contact her or see more of her work you can go here! www.Robbiemichaelsphotography.com
Thanks Robbie! Love you!

WHY BUY BOUTIQUE?

I have been designing childrens clothes professionally for about 20 years. Before that I worked in the garment center. The childrens clothing world just keeps getting bigger and bigger. When I had my business, I thought I was the only person in the country who did what I did. My business started out with just me sewing dolls. Someone offered me a small but beautiful storefront, I knew I couldn't just sell dolls, so I started making clothes for kids. At first I designed and sewed everything myself. At the end I had a small factory and a bunch of employees. I did about 25 trunk show a season up and down the east coast. A lot of the time, I questioned why people bought from me. I knew the clothes were cute and fit well but there was something else. That something else was that there is something special about companies that stay small, where every item is made with (corney as it sounds) love. I really believe some of me travels with each piece of clothing I sell.

I have only been on line a few months but have already met some great people and I cannot believe how many women in this country sew! Did women always sew or is it new? Are we just finding out about each other because of this online community? I think it's great. I think it's great to support each other, I think it's great to support handmade and I think it's great that so many sites support charities.

One last thing, I don't have a lot of memories from my childhood, but one I do have is my mother being happy. She was sitting at her old singer with a stack of back to school fabrics next to her...
