When your apt buzzer rings at 2 in the morning and you hear your mother's voice downstairs..you know it can't be good...

Dear Dad...

I miss you and I hope you are having a feast up in Heaven now enjoying all the foods you couldn't have for years, lentil soup with ham, an ice cold beer, hot pastrami,meatballs fried in oil not water. And I know you can finally walk again without pain and draw the way you use to and I hope your looking down at us knowing how much you are still loved. You were a special man. So many people at the wake, you were as close to a saint as you could be on earth. I didn't realize until now what an inspiration you were to me. You passed your artistic talent to Jennie and your generosity of spirit to me. I will try every day for the rest of my life to be as good of a person as you were.I miss you so much and wish you were here but I'm glad your out of pain. My life will never be the same.

Let it Snow!!

It's been a while since I felt this way. We just got in, its around 10 pm and its SNOWING outside! Less then a week till Christmas, jiffy pop, hot chocolate, a beautiful Christmas tree and songs on the piano (well keyboard!) Everthing feels so warm and cozy and perfect tonight. xoxo

You can find them here. These are the coolest things. You can get one where the pieces can be assembled in different ways or one that is already assembled. I love to turn this treehouse into a seasonal event. At Christmas fill it with pine, in spring moss... Then go here to get these fabulous wooden animals.
You can add fairy dolls. This leaves so much to the imagination. One of my favorites. My daughter and I collect the wooden pieces, I try and add a piece every year.
There are 5 different German manufacturers of these and you can find them in handmade shops across the country.

Where is Jimmy Stewart?

***This is not meant to be an offensive post and I was going to remove it but I feel the need to speak out against whats going on. Also, I have been involved in the court system in NY and I can tell you what a horror that is. It's not funny it messes with people's lives and seems to do everything to protect the guilty.

And please feel free to leave your opinion whether or not it agrees with mine.

I don't usually follow politics but this health care bill has caught my attention. Did I hear correctly that this new health care plan will pay for abortions and take money away from the older people in this country like my parents. The people who fought in the wars and made this place a great place to live. And paying for abortions. :( Today watching this on tv reminded me of Mr. Smith goes to Washinton. Its about a corrupt government and a bill being pushed through. It seems like they are in a hurry to push this bill through. I don't like this president , he's scary and he is destroying our country. For anyone who has never seen that movie, watch it, where is our Jimmy Stewart to save the day?

So look at this cute man in this enchanting little store located in Middleburg, Va. It looks like there are so many more wonderful things in the store that are not on the website.

So yes it takes a little more effort to search out handmade and shop at smaller stores but the payoff is great.

My daughter went to preschool in a waldorf school. I was introduced there to the wonderful world of handmade German toys and German Christmas fairs. We don't have a lot of money but there are certain things I am willing to spend a little more on.


This is a very hard thing to find, something you can't find in Walmart or Target. Its a 24 day advent candle. I ordered my advent calander, traditional German and this candle. Every night in December we burn the candle down to the next date, drink hot chocolate, read our christmas books and open the advent calender. Even though my daughter is no longer a baby she stills enjoys this. And I think this is something she will remember when she grows up.

Last year I waited to long and had to buy our calender at Barnes and Nobel, it cost more then this one and the quality didn't compare.


This is a really special "thing" :) It twirls from the candle flame, out of my price range, maybeSanta will leave it in my stocking!
